Annual Children’s Pedal Power Contest
For kids at the Somerset County Fair
Wednesday, 1 p.m.
For the over 30 years, Jack Fullerton brings pedal power to the Somerset County Fair
the last week in August.
In the 1980’s, Fullerton built a weight distribution sled which could be pulled
by a pedaled tractor.
Youngsters between the ages of 4 and 11 are placed in classes according to age
and are given their turn to see how far they can pull it. If more than one
participant makes a full pull, a pull-off is held.
Prizes and ribbons are awarded in each category.
The age groups this year are 4-5, 6-7, 8-9, 10-11.
Most people think the 10-11 -year-old group would have an easy time pulling the
sled. However, the 8-9 year olds do better because they have shorter legs and
the power goes directly to the pedals.
This event is free to the audience and has been held on the blacktop behind the
grandstand, or in the show arena. Rain will not effect this event because it is
portable.
