       Judging Arena

Wednesday, August 26, 2009 at 5 PM

General Rules

1.  A contestant and sheep can only enter one Leadline Competition class.

2.  Sheep must be fitted and trained to show at halter.

3.  Sheep will be judged on general appearance (fitting, cleanliness, etc.) Type and quality will not be judged.

4.  The contestant will be judged on poise and appearance.

5. The contestants must be attired in a wool outfit. The percentage of wool in~each item of clothing must be listed. The judges will take into consideration how muchwool the contestant is wearing. Twenty- five points will be deducted from a contestants score for garments made of less than 75% wool fabric.

6.  A $25.00 award will be given to the contestant wearing the best hand-made garment

made by the contestant.

Division Rules

1.   Competition is open to any Somerset County young person exhibiting sheep at the fair. Age division will be based on age as of August 1, 2008. Competition will be divided into Registered, Unregistered & Novelty Classes. If showing a registered lamb in the Leadline competition, please application. Your registration will be returned after the contest.

2.   Control and Presentation

3.   Appearance of Sheep

A.   Registered Classes:

a.  Registered ewe lamb or yearling ewe. (Must be registered in the contestant’s name.)

b.  Three Divisions:

1.   Junior Division—Ages 8-15 (Girls & Boys)

2.   Intermediate Division-Ages 12-15 (Girls & Boys)

3.   Senior Division-Ages 16-19 (Girls & Boys)

c.  Winners of the Senior Division will be eligible to receive $20.00 from the Lady Shepherds toward expenses if they go to the state competition.

B. Unregistered Classes:

a.    Ewe lambs, yearling ewe or weather. (All market lambs, registered or unregistered are shown in the unregistered class.)

b.   Three Divisions:

1.   Junior Division Ages 8-11 (Girls & Boys)

2.   Intermediate Division-Ages 12-15 (Girls & Boys)

3.   Senior Division-Ages 16-19 (Girls & Boys)

C.   Novelty Classes:

a.    Ewe lambs, yearling ewe or weather.

b.   Three Divisions:

1.   Junior Division Ages 0-12 (Girls & Boys)

2.   Senior Division-Ages 13 & Up (Girls & Boys),

d.   The costume must consist of at least 10% wool.

e.    Be Creative! What can you and your lamb be?

f.    The class will be judged on:

1.   Originality

2.   Audience Appeal & Personality

3.   Control and Appearance of Sheep
