PARADE MARSHALLS

The Somerset County Fair has selected Byron and Judy Glessner as the co-marshals for the 2010 Somerset County Fair Farmers’ and Merchants’ Parade.
The Glessners have been active with the Somerset County Fair since the mid-1950’s. Judy’s love of horses got her started in going to the fair. Byron’s FFA background got him involved.
They were married in 1960 and from that time through the present, they have spent the week camping at the fair. They exhibited their horses and as time went on, they became more and more involved. Their three children were in 4-H and exhibited many of their project items.
In 1972, Byron was elected onto the Somerset County Fair Board of Directors and Judy helped in the exhibit hall. Byron was president from 1988 through 2009 and Judy continued staffing Department 18 and the Youth Department of the exhibit hall, making all of the arrangements from getting the judges to ordering the ribbons and making sure all of the articles were properly displayed.
Now, they are watching their seven grandchildren show their livestock and enter their 4-H and FFA projects. In 2009, Byron stepped down from the presidency and Judy is “passing the torch” on for someone who will be able to keep the exhibit halls full of beautiful items that people have made, sewn, painted, baked, grown and brought to make the fair a success.
