CHAMPIONSHIP FIGURE “8” RACING

OFFICIAL RULES AND REGULATIONS

Figure “8” demolition derby race is held in an area approximately 200 feet long by 60 feet wide. It utilizes four cylinder cars. The number of cars in each heat and the number of laps will be determined the night of the show, based on the number of entries. Unlike the traditional demo, in this event it is your ability to out think and out maneuver the other driver, while being the first to complete the required laps.

 

CAR SPECIFICATIONS

  1. Any small lightweight automobile is acceptable. 105-inch wheel base or less, four cylinders, four or five lug wheels. Cars must have brakes. DO NOT REMOVE DASH.

  2. Driver’s door must be securely fastened. A bar, bumper, or guard rail must be attached to the outside of the drivers door. Reiriforcements must not extend out from the car more than 3 inches and be tapered off to the body of the car. Reinforcement is MANDATORY, because you may be hit in the driver’s side door. Absolutely no concrete will be allowed. No door reinforcement, you will not run. Passengers door may have extra straps or ties or be welded solid. You may install a bar reinforcement behind the driver’s seat, which extends from one side of the car to the other.

  3. The front end of your car may be reinforced with the following guidelines:

A.  All reinforcements must be kept behind the original grill and within the original sheet metal.

B.   Bars must not exceed 2 inches in diameter.

C.  At least 50% of the radiator must be exposed to the front of the car.

D.  Bars must not extend back more than 24 inches towards the driver’s compartment. OFFICIALS WILL BE THE SOLE JUDGE OF EXCESS REINFORCEMENT AND MAY REQUIRE YOU TO ADD OR SUBTRACT METAL AS NEEDED.

  1. Bumpers must be original.

  2. Rear seat must be removed completely. Loose dirt and pieces must be removed from the car.

  3. Original gas tank may be used, but must have extra straps. Gas tank may be moved from the original location. If gas lank is moved, it must be mounted in front of the rear axle. No gas tanks mounted directly behind the driver’s seat. You must have at least two tie downs on the tank. All caps, fitting, and lines must be leak proof. No plastic tanks of any kind. No wire, rope, or seatbelt straps accepted as tie downs. If gas is accidentally spilled during fill up, hose out well. NO EXCEPTIONS! MAXIMUM OF TWO GALLONS OF GAS PER CAR

  4. All glass, including headlights and taillights must be removed. Windshield may remain in or be taken out. Heavy screen or a window net must be placed over the driver’s window.

  5. One 12-volt battery per car. Batteries may be moved.

  6. All side chrome must be removed. All plastic including plastic grills must be removed.

  7. Hood may have two tie downs, which will be put on after car inspection. Trunk lids may be tied down with two straps after inspection. A hole must be in the center of hood. No holes can be placed over the fan.

  8. All air conditioning units must be removed.

  9. Positively no water in tires. No bolting tire to the rim or fastening tires to the rim in any way. Tires must be street legal. No studs or cut tires.

  10. All cars must be painted white, with a bright number on each door. The number must be at least 18 inches high. YOU WILL BE ASSIGNED NUMBERS THE DAY OF THE EVENT. DO NOT PAINT NUMBER UNTIL YOU ARE ASSIGNED ONE!!!!!! 

 

REGULATIONS
  1. You must be 18 years of age to compete. Proof of age is required when you enter your car. No one under 16 will be permitted in the pit area.

  2. Each driver may enter only one car.

  3. All cars must be entered at least one hour before starting time.

  4. Seatbelts and safety helmets are required. Face shields or goggles recommended.

  5. You can be disqualified for the following: leaking gas, hung up on another car, leaving the driving area, or sitting dead on the course.

  6. Intentionally leaving the figure “8” pattern so as to hit another driver may also cause disqualification.

  7. The winner is determined by the first car to cross the finish line after a predetermined number of laps. Therefore, cars must remain in a forward motion; except if a bottleneck occurs at a corner. Reverse will be allowed to clear the corner only. Deliberate contact while in reverse will result in disqualification.

  8. Starting position will be determined by luck of the draw.

  9. Heat winner will be eligible for the feature event.
