SECTION 3 – MISCELLANEOUS CONTEST
Fun Safety Initiative poster contest
The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture and the Somerset County Fair are
sponsoring a “Fun Safety Initiative” poster contest.
Children ages by June 1, of 8–11, 12–14, and 15–18, can enter.
Submit entries from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., the first Saturday,
Premiums $4.00 $3.00 $2.00
The theme of this year’s contest is “Fun and Safety on the Fairgrounds.” The
posters should pertain to amusement rides and any of the items listed below.
Tram – fairground to and from parking lot transportation
Livestock – Biting, kicking, runaway, hand–feeding hazards
Horse–drawn wagons and equipment dangers
Tractors and tractor–drawn equipment dangers
Caged poultry and animal hazards
Trip hazards
Criteria for the state contest:
1. Only one poster may be submitted per student.
2. The poster size must be 14 1/2 by 22 inches, equivalent to one–half of a
standard poster board. Other sizes will not be accepted for judging at the state
level.
3. This year’s theme is “Fun and Safety on the Fairgrounds.” Participants should
use this theme on their poster and illustrate the interdependence between riders
and rides.
4. One poster per age group per fair may be forwarded for state competition.
5. Posters will be evaluated on use of the theme, visual appearance and
creativity in relation to the exhibitor’s age group.
6. Checks for $100, $75 and $50 will be presented by the Pennsylvania Department
of Agriculture to the state top three individuals in each age group during the
Pennsylvania State Farm Show in 2010. Winners will be notified in advance and
invited to attend an awards presentation.
