2015  Fair Queen Jillian Svonavec

Farewell Speech

My time as the reigning 2015 Somerset County Fair Queen flew before my eyes. The memories I made will never be forgotten and I am so grateful to have had this wonderful experience. As the fair ambassador, I promoted the fair and our county to help endorse the agriculture industry. I am so honored and proud to have been given the opportunity to give back to my community by representing the fair. Our fair holds a special place in my heart. I have grown up around this fair. Raising animals has been a part of my life since the age of 9. As my life continues, not being able to show animals will be a hard aspect to admit.

While in crown, I visited elementary schools, read to children for Reading Across America, was a guest speaker at several events, attended the annual State Fair Queen Contest, and several further events. I was truly honored to attend the State Fair Queen Contest. This event is an opportunity that is once in a lifetime. Many thanks go to Gail and Larry Hay for preparing me for this contest. The late night rehearsals were well worth it. Thank you for being such great people, I am deeply grateful to have such amazing people in my life.

I would also like to thank former queen, Julia Hay. You have been such an amazing role-model for me. I do not think I could have achieved this title without your help. Your grace, passion for agriculture, and confidence are qualities to be proud of. Thank you for your life lessons and words of wisdom. You are a great friend and I respect you so much.

Next, I would like to thank my brother, Jared. You have sat through every event of mine. Your support in me is much appreciated and I am blessed to have a companion like you. Your witty remarks always keep me laughing. Thank you for always being there for me and supporting me in all that I do.

Now to my father, Ron. Words cannot express how grateful I am for you. I admire your patience in me and your never ending support. You have taught be to be a better person and to work hard for what I want. The role-model you set for me and Jared is extraordinary. The guidance you have given me in all aspects of life will never be taken for granted. Thank you, dad.

Though she is no longer with us, I would like to thank my mother. She encouraged me continuously to participate in the Fair Queen Contest. So not only did I run for myself, but for her as well. She believed in me and supported me in everything I did. I have you to thank the most for helping me become the Somerset County Fair Queen. I miss you with all of my heart but I know you are with me in spirit. I love you and thank you for everything you taught me in the last seventeen years.

Finally, I need to give a special thanks to all of my friends and family who supported me along the way. Pam, Carol, Hannah, Colton, Fred, Jess, Ann, Bryan, and many more. You have all helped me in some special way. Whether it be proofreading my speech, or helping me pick out my gown, I could not have accomplished this dream without the help of each and every one of you. I am blessed to have you in my life. Thank you.

As my year of Fair Queen comes to an end, I look back on all that has happened to me while in crown. So many amazing events occurred while I was honored this title. My best wishes go to the future queen. May you embrace all that the queen title has to offer. Thank you and God bless.
